Understanding your Earnings Detail (CSV Export)

Every reporting period, we receive royalty reports from a number of different retailers, streaming providers, ad-based, and UGC platforms. All of this data is compiled into one standardized format that is then uploaded to your account for your viewing on the SymphonicMS.

Through the SymphonicMS, you have various views to see how your material performed. You have views to break down sales and streams from an artist, partner, release, track, territory, or other perspectives.

In addition, you can export the raw data to use and compile however you like. This overview will help you understand your Earnings Detail CSV export.

Reporting Period: We report monthly. The period that the report corresponds to will be shown here.  We encourage you to bookmark and reference our Monthly Reporting & Payment Schedule, which provides more information on when each month of royalties are scheduled to be posted and available to claim payment.

Label: The record label name(s) that you used to distribute content via your Symphonic Distribution account.  If you are an artist, your artist name would typically show up here. If you are a label, then when you send this to your artists, whichever label the release and artist is under will show up here.

Release Name: A release consists of a Single, EP, and/or a full album. The name of that product is listed here.

Release Version: If your release has a version name, it will be shown here.

Release Artists: The primary artist for that release is listed here. You won't see the remixer, featuring artists or other contributors in this field. You can see that data within your SymphonicMS Catalog.

UPC Code: The UPC that was assigned to your release. This is an individual product identifier. Having this code will then match up any sales or streams to your releases. Whenever this is reported, it is matched to your existing catalog. If no match is found, the transaction will be listed under "Unmatched" but is still included in your earnings and account balance.

Catalogue: Some partners will report a catalog number. A catalog number is similar to a UPC in that it is an identifier for the release.

Track Title: The song title is listed here. If it was a music video or other type of asset, the video or asset title will be listed here.

Mix Version: This is typically where mix version name of the track or song is placed (IE: Original Mix) and/or the remixer version. For example, DJ Patrick Remix may show up in this column if that was the remixer who remixed the track.

ISRC Code: Much like UPC, this is an individual identifier for your song or track. Whenever this is reported, it is matched to your existing catalog. If no match is found, the transaction will be listed under "Unmatched" but is still included in your earnings and account balance.

Track Artist: The primary artist for that track is listed here. You won't see the remixer, featuring artists or other contributors in this field. You can see that data within your SymphonicMS Catalog.

Digital Service Provider: This represents the partner that each royalty came from.

Activity Period: This represents the month of when each stream, download, view, or other activity occurred.  For example, if the royalty came from a listener who streamed your music during June 2025, the Activity Period will June 30, 2025.  Some partners do not report monthly, but many do.  Furthermore, you may see a previous month from a previous period on a report because certain partners sometimes report late, or on a different schedule.   We encourage you to review our monthly Report Notices, which list all of the statements that are included or delayed in each reporting period.   For partners that report quarterly and not monthly, the Activity Period will be the last month of the quarter that was reported.  For example, if a partner reported royalties for Q125 (2025-Q1) and did not indicate a breakdown for each month, the Activity Period will be March 31, 2025.

Territory: This is a three-letter territory designation that indicates where the stream or other sale activity occurred.

Delivery: This indicates how the customer consumed the song, music video, or other asset.  Examples include Download, Streaming, UGC, Webcasting, and more - which correspond to the various forms of how that music is/was consumed.

Content Type: This indicates the type of asset that generated the sale.  Examples include Single, Release, Ringtone, Music Video, User Generated Content, Neighboring Rights, STEM Distribution, Art Track, Mechanicals, and more. The more the industry evolves, the more content types we will continue to add to the reporting.

Sale or Void: You will typically see Sale or Void here. A Sale is considered a download, stream, or play/view on any platform. A Void is considered a return and/or a fraudulent transaction that was deducted.

Count: If you had a Single and/or Release sale or stream, the individual count reported by a partner will be listed here. In the event a partner does not report this, then we place a 1.   MOST partners report a track count.   When a Download sale occurs for a Release that contains more than one song, the SymphonicMS will split it evenly across all of the tracks contained within that Release. With Streaming, it can be complex to understand as you may see a lot of track counts but a small dollar amount. Every streaming provider has different pay rates for different territories for different times of the year and there is no flat streaming rate for any partner (more info here). Lastly, if there is a return or a "Voided Transaction" then the track count may show a negative count.

Royalty ($US): This is the USD royalty amount that your account earned.  The amount shown here is after Symphonic has already deducted your distribution rate.  Also, this amount is BEFORE any SplitShare transfers are deducted for royalties that the system has transferred to your artists (payees).  If you are receiving earnings for content that you have submitted directly in your SymphonicMS account, and/or if you are receiving splits from another account, both sets of incoming royalties are included in this report.

Important Notes

  • N/A or blank means that there is no data available for that corresponding field. This may occur frequently as not all partners provide this level of detail.
  • "Balance Forwarded From Previous..." may be included in older, historical reports (2020 and previous).  It means that your balance was either not claimed or not over the threshold to be claimed at that time, and therefore your balance rolled forward into the next reporting period. This is typically found in the "Digital Service Provider" column.
