Spotify Music Videos Overview

Spotify has begun rolling out a music video feature that brings official music videos directly into the Spotify app, expanding the platform from audio-only streaming into a richer multimedia experience. This marks a major evolution in how fans engage with music and visuals on the service.

Spotify’s music video feature allows eligible users to watch full-length music videos from artists while using the Spotify app. Instead of listening to a song with static artwork or a short Spotify Canvas, listeners can toggle into a video experience, similar to watching a music video on other platforms, but within Spotify itself.

The initial rollout is beta and currently available to Premium subscribers in key markets, including the United States and Canada, with plans to expand further and grow the available catalog over time. Currently, the feature is available for free listeners in Brazil and Colombia.  Please see this article for more information on availability.

How to watch Music Videos on Spotify:

  1. Open the Spotify app on a supported device- including mobile (iOS and Android), desktop, and TV apps.

  2. Play a track that has an available video. If a music video is offered, you’ll see a "Switch to video" option in the player.

  3. Tap "Switch to video" to begin watching the video-  it will pick up right where the song left off.

  4. To go back to audio-only mode (for background listening or saving data), simply tap "Switch to audio".

  5. On mobile, rotating your device into landscape mode will show the video in full screen.

Benefits of this feature:

For Listeners

  • Seamless Video Experience — Fans can watch music videos without leaving the app.

  • Better Engagement — Videos can increase interaction with songs and artists and enhance the listening experience.

For Artists

  • New Discovery Channel — Artists can reach fans with both audio and visual content in one place.

  • Additional Monetization — Videos count toward engagement and royalty systems under Spotify’s licensing agreements, potentially creating new revenue streams.

For the Industry

Spotify’s move places it in more direct competition with YouTube Music and traditional music video platforms. By integrating video, Spotify aims to keep users engaged for longer and provide a more comprehensive music experience than audio alone.

Can I submit back catalog videos to Spotify?

Yes, delivery of videos to Spotify is not just reserved for new releases only!

If you have distributed a video in the past with Symphonic and already paid the $95 fee for that video, you are welcome to have its delivery expedited for $15 per video to Spotify using the following submission form.

Please note that this Rush Delivery Request form is only for Symphonic client music videos that are already distributed via Symphonic and the distribution fee has already been paid for.

Do I need to distribute the audio?

To deliver a video to Spotify through Symphonic, the corresponding audio must also be distributed by Symphonic.

If your audio release is currently distributed by another provider, the video will not be eligible for Spotify delivery. To resolve this, you can transfer your audio to Symphonic using TransferTrack. Once the audio is successfully transferred, we will be able to deliver your video to Spotify.
