Spotify Canvas

Spotify Canvas allows artists and labels to add a short, looping visual to each track. This visual replaces the static cover art in the Now Playing view on the Spotify mobile app and loops continuously while the track plays.

Canvas is available through Spotify for Artists, where eligible artists and team members with the appropriate permissions can upload and manage visuals directly.

Adding a Canvas can help increase engagement, shares, and overall listener interaction.

Canvas Best Practices

To ensure the best listener experience, we recommend the following:

  • Avoid including artist names or song titles in the visual, as this information already appears in the Now Playing view.
  • Do not use videos with visible singing, rapping, or talking, as the Canvas loop is not synced to the audio and may appear out of time.
  • Avoid intense flashing, strobe effects, or rapid cuts, as these can be distracting or problematic for some viewers.
  • Keep important visuals centered to avoid cropping by Spotify’s interface.
  • Use smooth, seamless loops that feel natural when repeating.

Canvas Specifications

When creating and uploading a Canvas, ensure your file meets Spotify’s requirements:

  • Aspect Ratio: 9:16 (vertical)
  • Length: 3–8 seconds (looped)
  • Resolution: Minimum height of 720px
    • Recommended: 1080 × 1920 for optimal quality
  • File Format: MP4 (recommended) or JPG (for static visuals)
  • Orientation: Vertical only

For best performance, keep file sizes optimized and export using standard video settings (e.g., 24–30 fps).

Content Guidelines & Limitations

Before uploading your Canvas, please ensure:

  • You have the full rights and permissions to use the visual content.
  • The content does not contain hateful, abusive, pornographic, threatening, or obscene material.
  • The Canvas does not include promotional messaging, external URLs, calls to action, or content that directs users off Spotify (including social media handles, ticket links, or merch promotions).
  • The visual complies with Spotify’s content policies and community guidelines.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the Canvas being rejected or removed.
