Metadata translations allow you to accurately provide translations for your release in any of the languages we support. They help enhance the discoverability of your release in localized storefronts on supported DSPs.
Let's say your release is natively presented in English, but you're able to provide a Spanish translation. Users in locales where Spanish is the default language when accessing Apple Music will be able to search and find your release in Spanish instead of English.
Translations should only be entered if you can provide an accurate translation in the selected language. It is not a requirement to enter metadata translations.
Supported DSPs
Apple is the only DSP that we deliver translations to at this time.
Chinese Language Requirements
Chinese language requires metadata to be provided in both Chinese: Simplified and Chinese: Traditional.
If your release's default metadata language is in either Chinese: Simplified or Chinese: Traditional you are required to provide a translation of your artist name in the other Chinese metadata language at the release level and for all tracks on the release.
If your release's default metadata language isn't one of the Chinese metadata languages and you want to add Chinese translations you will need to supply translations for both Chinese: Simplified and Chinese: Traditional. This applies wherever you decide to add Chinese translations; the release level or tracks.
How to add metadata translations:
When entering Release or Track metadata, you'll see a button to 'Add Translation'. Clicking this will add a row to select the translation language you're providing and fields to provide the Release/Track title and version. Only supply a translation for a Release/Track version if one exists in the original metadata language.
A selected translation at the release will not automatically propagate to all tracks. You must manually add a translation to each track on the release. It is not required a translation be provided for all tracks on a release but highly recommended for better compatibility with supported DSPs (and there might be scenarios where a translation doesn't make sense for a particular track).
