If your content has been muted or blocked on Facebook or Instagram, it means Meta's systems have restricted the audio on your post after it was published. This can be frustrating, especially when the music was available at the time you originally posted or when other creators appear to be using the same track without issue. There are several reasons this can happen, ranging from licensing changes and copyright detection to account type restrictions and commercial use limitations. In most cases, the muting or blocking is automated by Meta's Content ID systems and is not triggered by Symphonic. Below, we'll explain the most common causes and what options are available to you.
Commercial or branded use
If you're using music in paid ads, sponsored content, or branded posts, Meta requires the music to be cleared for commercial use. Regular access to the music library does not cover commercial or promotional use. Business accounts are subject to stricter limitations and cannot use most copyrighted music for promotional purposes unless:
-The audio is from Meta's commercial music library (Facebook Sound Collection)
-You have explicit commercial licensing for the track
-The music is royalty-free and cleared for commercial use
Copyright fingerprinting
Meta's automated Content ID systems continuously scan audio. If a rights holder flags unauthorized use or withdraws licensing rights, your content may be muted across all markets or selectively in certain regions. This can happen even if the music was available when you originally posted.
Licensing changes
Music licensing on Meta is not permanent. When licenses expire or are not renewed, Meta is legally required to remove or mute the affected audio. This is especially common during licensing disputes when record labels and Meta cannot agree on terms.
Un-launched territory enforcement
There are certain regions where Meta's music products are not fully available because Meta does not have complete licensing rights. Content posted with music may be muted in these countries.
If you believe your content was muted in error, you can look for an appeal option in the notification from Meta. If you have the rights to the music, submitting an appeal may restore access.
