YouTube Content ID Earnings & Percentage

YouTube generates revenue through:

  • Advertising (ads shown on videos)
  • YouTube Premium / Music subscriptions

When your music is enrolled in YouTube Content ID, YouTube scans videos across the platform to identify uses of your recordings. When a match is found, a claim is placed on that video, and monetization can be applied.

This allows you to earn revenue not only from your own uploads, but also from user-generated content (UGC) that includes your music.

How Earnings Are Generated

Revenue is earned when monetization is enabled on a claimed video. This can include:

  • Ads displayed on the video
  • Ads viewed or clicked by users
  • Revenue from YouTube Premium subscribers

Not every video will generate revenue—earnings depend on factors like:

  • Ad availability
  • Viewer location
  • Watch time and engagement

Revenue Share

Revenue share for YouTube Content ID may vary depending on your agreement with Symphonic.

For many clients (such as Starter and Partner plans), Symphonic typically retains a percentage of the revenue generated, with the majority paid out to you. This percentage often falls around 30%, but your specific rate will be outlined in your agreement.

This share covers:

  • Delivery and ingestion into YouTube’s Content ID system
  • Ongoing asset management and claim administration
  • Manual review and claiming where applicable
  • Reporting and royalty processing

When and How You're Paid

Earnings are reported and paid monthly, based on YouTube’s reporting schedule. Revenue appears in your Symphonic account once processed and finalized.
