One of the most common issues artists encounter on SoundCloud is ending up with multiple profiles — one they created themselves and one that SoundCloud auto-generated when distributed content was delivered. Symphonic can request a profile merge to bring everything under one roof, but there's an important tradeoff: SoundCloud does not preserve play counts or social signals during the merge process. This article explains why duplicate profiles happen, what merging involves, what data is lost, and how to prevent the issue on future releases.
Why do I have two SoundCloud profiles?
When Symphonic delivers your music to SoundCloud, the platform's system attempts to match the content to an existing artist profile. If it can't find an exact match — due to spelling variations, special characters in your name, or because no profile exists yet — SoundCloud will automatically generate a new profile for your delivered content.
This means you may end up with two profiles: your original SoundCloud account (where you upload directly) and an auto-generated profile (where your distributed content lives). This is a common occurrence and not an error on Symphonic's part — it's how SoundCloud's ingestion system works.
Can the profiles be merged?
Yes. Symphonic can request a profile harmonization from SoundCloud, which moves all supply chain (distributed) content from the auto-generated profile onto your personal, manually-created profile. The auto-generated profile is then deleted.
After the merge, you retain full control of your account, settings, profile visuals, bio, and any tracks you uploaded directly. The distributed content will now appear alongside your uploaded tracks on a single, unified profile.
What you need to know before requesting a merge
This is the critical part: when SoundCloud merges profiles, all play counts, likes, comments, and social signals from the auto-generated profile are permanently lost.
This is a SoundCloud platform limitation, not something Symphonic or any other distributor can override. SoundCloud has confirmed that there is currently no way to transfer or combine statistics between profiles or between tracks. The data simply does not carry over.
This applies to:
- Total play counts on individual tracks
- Likes and reposts
- Comments
- Follower counts on the auto-generated profile
Is merging still worth it?
In most cases, yes. Here's why:
- A unified profile is easier for fans to find and follow
- Your full catalog lives in one place, which improves the listener experience
- Content on your actual profile performs better over time than content on an anonymous auto-generated page
- Future releases will map correctly once the merge is complete and the correct artist ID is on file
That said, if your auto-generated profile has accumulated substantial play counts and you're not comfortable losing them, you can choose to keep the profiles separate. There's no requirement to merge. The tradeoff is simply between a cleaner profile presence and retaining historical stats.
Can I merge two tracks' stats together?
No. SoundCloud does not support combining the statistics or metadata of two different tracks, regardless of whether they are the same song. If you have a self-uploaded version and a distributed version of the same track, each one maintains its own independent play count, and there is no way to consolidate them.
This also means that if you take down a distributed track and re-upload it (or vice versa), the new version starts from zero. Plan accordingly before making changes.
How to request a profile merge
Contact our support team with the following:
- The URL of your personal SoundCloud profile (the one you want to keep)
- The URL of the auto-generated profile (the one you want to merge from and delete)
- Confirmation that you understand play counts and social signals from the auto-generated profile will be lost
Symphonic will submit the harmonization request to SoundCloud on your behalf. SoundCloud requires written confirmation from the rightsholder (Symphonic) before processing the merge.
Why can't I edit or delete tracks that Symphonic delivered?
Supply chain content is managed entirely through the distributor's delivery feed. SoundCloud does not allow end users (artists) to modify or remove tracks that were delivered by a rightsholder. If you need to make a change — such as updating track metadata, artwork, or requesting a takedown — you'll need to submit a request through Symphonic's support team so we can process it on our end.
How can I verify my SoundCloud profile?
You can request this directly on your SoundCloud profile. Your account needs to meet the following requirements in order to request verification:
- It represents a well-known and/or highly searched-for artist, collective, DJ, label, curator, or podcaster.
- It must be a unique profile. SoundCloud doesn't verify fan accounts or impersonators.
- It doesn’t contain any misleading information and adheres to SoundCloud's terms of use.
- It must have a bio, profile photo, and at least one track uploaded.
Please note that SoundCloud holds the right to verify accounts at their discretion.
