SoundCloud works differently from other DSPs like Spotify or Apple Music. When you distribute a release through Symphonic and select SoundCloud as a delivery partner, your tracks are delivered into SoundCloud's commercial catalog through what's called the supply chain feed. This is the same system all major distributors use to get music onto SoundCloud Go (SoundCloud's paid streaming tier).
Once your music is delivered, it becomes what SoundCloud calls "ingested content" — meaning it was delivered by a rightsholder (in this case, Symphonic) rather than uploaded directly by the artist. This ingested content appears in your SoundCloud track list just like any track you uploaded yourself, but there are some important differences in how it behaves.
How do I opt in?
To make your music available on SoundCloud Go, you need to upload it through an official delivery feed. This ensures proper integration with the platform and seamless access for Go subscribers. You can opt in on your SymphonicMS dashboard under Account Badge ► Enrollments.
Once opted in, you will be able to select SoundCloud as a delivery partner on your releases. Click here for more information on Enrollments.
Can I still upload music to SoundCloud myself?
Yes — but there's an important step you need to take first.
You can absolutely continue uploading tracks directly to your own SoundCloud profile. Many artists do this for pre-release sharing, sending private links to publicists, or keeping unreleased demos available to their followers.
However, once Symphonic has delivered your music to SoundCloud, SoundCloud's automated content identification system (powered by Audible Magic) will recognize your tracks. If you try to upload the same track yourself, SoundCloud may block the upload because it matches content already in their system. This isn't an error — it's copyright protection working as intended.
To prevent this from happening, you need to allowlist your SoundCloud profile through Symphonic. This tells SoundCloud that your personal account is authorized to upload the same content that Symphonic is delivering on your behalf.
How to allowlist your profile: In your SymphonicMS account, go to Rights ► SoundCloud Allowlist and add your SoundCloud profile URL.

Benefits of opting in to SoundCloud
While self-uploading gives you direct control over individual tracks, distributing through Symphonic unlocks significant advantages that self-uploads alone cannot provide:
Monetization on SoundCloud Go. Tracks delivered through Symphonic are automatically included in SoundCloud's paid streaming catalog (SoundCloud Go and Go+). This means every stream from a paying subscriber generates royalties that are tracked, reported, and paid out to you through Symphonic. Self-uploaded tracks are only monetizable if you independently qualify for and enroll in SoundCloud's Premier program — which is not available to artists who have an active distribution deal.
Copyright protection. When Symphonic delivers your content, your audio is registered in SoundCloud's content identification system (Audible Magic). This means if anyone else tries to upload your music without permission, it gets automatically blocked. Self-uploaded tracks do not receive this level of protection.
Consolidated royalty reporting and payments. Your SoundCloud earnings are included alongside your royalties from Spotify, Apple Music, and every other platform Symphonic delivers to — all visible in one dashboard, paid out on one schedule. No need to manage a separate payout relationship with SoundCloud directly.
Playlist pitching opportunities. Distribution clients are eligible to have their music pitched to SoundCloud's editorial team for playlist placement. This is not available for self-uploaded content or Starter accounts.
Professional metadata management. Symphonic ensures your releases are delivered with complete, industry-standard metadata — including ISRCs, UPCs, contributor credits, and properly formatted artwork — which improves discoverability and ensures accurate royalty attribution.
Scale across your full catalog. If you're releasing music regularly, distributing through Symphonic means every release is automatically delivered, protected, and monetized without you having to manage each track individually on SoundCloud.
In short, self-uploading is great for demos, previews, DJ mixes, and tracks you want to share casually. But for any release you want professionally monetized, protected, and part of your broader distribution strategy, delivering through Symphonic is the way to go. Many artists use both — they distribute their official catalog through Symphonic while keeping their SoundCloud profile active for direct uploads of informal or promotional content.
What is allowlisting, and why is it important?
Think of your SoundCloud profile as a digital vault for your music. Allowlisting functions like a security clearance, restricting upload access to only authorized accounts you trust, such as collaborators, PR agencies, or affiliated companies. This prevents unauthorized uploads of your music and protects your copyrights.
Note: If you distribute your music through other platforms or distributors, ensure they also allowlist your SoundCloud profile. This extends your control and protection across multiple channels. More information about SoundCloud allowlisting can be found here.
