Luminate Registration

What is Luminate?
Luminate is a tracking system operated by Nielsen. Luminate tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada. Any music product that carries a UPC or EAN barcode and ISRC code is eligible to be tracked by Luminate.

Why do I need this?
If you want to have a chance at making the Billboard music charts, your release must be registered with Luminate using a UPC number (for the whole album) and ISRC codes (for the individual tracks). Without registration, the sales figures will not be counted and will remain invisible to the system.  UPC's and ISRC's are given to you by Symphonic while distributing your content. 

Some retailers and streaming providers report sales and streams to Luminate. In order for your album to be considered for reporting, you need to ensure that it is registered with Luminate. (Unless you want to be invisible to the system, which we're sure you definitely don't.)

Do I receive access to the data?
This service is strictly for the registration of your album, single, and/or Music Video into the Luminate database. We do not provide any sales data, so in order for you to receive this data, you would need to register directly with Luminate. We will advise that this type of registration comes with significant costs and is similar data to what you will receive in the sales statements that we provide. So all in all, we can't recommend that you do or don't register, it is not mandatory to use this service. You do you. 

Sales data from point-of-sale cash registers is collected weekly from over 14,000 retail, mass merchant and non-traditional (on-line stores, venues, etc.) outlets. Weekly data is compiled and made available every Wednesday to paying subscribers of Nielsen. Nielsen Luminate is the sales source for the Billboard music charts.
